Grade Viewer is shutting down

Sign-in is off. This site no longer connects to any school district system, and it no longer collects a login. If this browser had a saved sign-in, it is being deleted now.

What this was

Grade Viewer was a small, independent, open-source website. It ran in your browser and let you look at grades, mail, attendance, and documents you could already see in your school’s official portal, plus local what-if scores that never left this device. It was not a district product. It was not for profit. It was never affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by Edupoint Educational Systems or any school.

The letter

On August 31, 2026, Edupoint Educational Systems emailed contact@gradeviewer.org. Edupoint makes the student information system many schools use, and it owns the federally registered EDUPOINT, SYNERGY, and STUDENTVUE trademarks. They asked us to stop, and to confirm in writing by September 8, 2026. We are complying.

They raised two issues.

1. Their trademarks

They agreed the product name “Grade Viewer” does not include their marks, and that the project said it was not affiliated with them. Their concern was narrower: the site described itself as a viewer for their product. The homepage headline, body copy, and search description used their mark as the main way to explain what this was. They say that can make people think Grade Viewer is associated with, endorsed by, or approved by Edupoint.

We are removing that marketing use: it is gone from this homepage, from page metadata, and from the other public pages on this site.

2. Connecting to their systems

Grade Viewer asked you for the same username and password you already use at school, then your browser used those to load records from Edupoint’s web services. We did not keep a password or gradebook on our servers. After sign-in, this device kept an encrypted copy of the login; signing out deleted it.

Edupoint’s position is that those measures do not matter for permission. They say they never authorized this application to connect, that a student cannot grant that permission on Edupoint’s behalf, and that the access itself is unauthorized. They cited student-privacy and computer-access laws as concerns, including FERPA, COPPA, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and state unfair-trade-practice laws.

We are not going to litigate that on this page. We are stopping the connection.

What they asked us to do

What we are doing

Use your school’s official portal for grades and school mail. That is the supported way to see the same information.
